Description    (1)

We begin to collect terms used throughout the Bloomer project. Core terms are found in vocabularies associated with topic maps, wikis, sensemaking, and other related domains. Glossaries for particular portals might emerge for those portals.    (1A)

An issue that grows out of doing glossaries is this: if we have different glossaries at one installation for different portals, and if more than one of those glossaries happens to use the same term with a different definition, then we have a built-in ambiguity that the system, the entire fabric of a collective intelligence platform, seeks to avoid. In fact, if we have the same term with a closely similar definition in more than one glossary, the Federation Server will try to merge them. It may be that noticing such a merge will provoke removal of the affected term from one of the glossaries in favor of referencing (linking) the other. Similarity in terms across disciplines is a hint at potential collaboration.    (1B)

A Conundrum    (2)

Technically speaking, in terms of a topic maps pattern language, each of these terms is a topic; topics are each the subject of an individual page in the wiki.    (2A)

As defined at Wikipedia, a portal is an introductory page for a given topic. It sets context for a class of topics and provides navigational aids into those topics.

Wiki Namespace    (3J)

MediaWiki provides for prefixes to page identifiers. For instance, this page lies in the Topic namespace.    (3J1)

Wiki Template    (3K)

Wiki page templates use the Template namespace. A good tutorial on templates is found here.    (3K1)
